I cannot believe it has almost been a month since my last
entry! Time is flying by so fast I can barely
keep up. Luckily it has slowed down just
enough for me to update you all on what all has been happening in the life of
Rachel!
Once I got back from London I only had a week and a half
back in Iasi before our next vacation (because of our visa situation we have to
take all three of our out of country vacations before the second week in
November).
It has really started to cool down these last few days and I
am loving it! When we take the children outside to walk and play they are so
adorable in their little coat and hats! I seriously fall in love with the
children more and more each day! I really wish I could show you pictures of
them but, like I have said before, unfortunately it’s just not allowed. I can
share experiences I have had with them though!
Some of the children are progressing in their speech and motor
development and it makes me so happy! One day we were playing at the park two
of the little girls brought their baby dolls with them. As we were playing with them, the five-year-old
girl went over to the swing and set her baby on it and started pushing
her! It was so cute!! Both girls then continued
to bring their dolls with them around the playground and instead of playing on
the toys themselves they would set their baby dolls on the toys to play!! It
was so precious.
On Thursday of this week my friend Rylie and I went to the
church building where the missionaries hold an English lesson game night for
any of the Romanians that want to attend.
It is lots of fun and a neat experience for us because we get to learn
more about the Romanian culture and get to meet many amazing people as
well! When Rylie and I got there some of
the Sister Missionaries were running late so the Elders asked us to help with
one of the classes. At first I was
pretty scared because I didn’t know how they had been teaching them the language,
but it ended up being super fun just talking about life and getting to know
some of the people that live here in Iasi.
Thursday night was so much fun because we met new people, we were able
to spend time with the missionaries (makes me feel close to all my friends and family
that are out on missions right now), and also it felt nice to be able to be in
the church building, there is a sense of peace and safety in the church
building, no matter where I go or travel to!
On Saturday several of the older women in the church held a
group activity for us ILP girls and taught us how to make authentic Romanian food! We had stuffed bell peppers called Sarmale
and also rapped that same stuffing for the bell peppers in some sort of leaf.
After we made these things we were able eat them! We had the main dish and then several desserts
made by the elder ladies and also some desserts the sister missionaries had
made such as no bake cookies! All the
food was so yummy and it was fun to get to communicate and get to know them!
I am so grateful for the church here in Iasi and all the loving
and welcoming members we have had the opportunity to interact with and get to
know!
